Mencía is our indigenous red grape in Bierzo. Among its main characteristics, we may highlight herbal and floral notes that sometimes combine with intense fruity aromas and/or complex mineral hints. APPELLATION: Bierzo

AGE OF THE VINEYARD: 45 - 55 years old bush vines.

SOILS: Slopes with clay and slate.

ALTITUDE: 450 - 600 metres.

In Bierzo, the altitude is one of the key factors that defines the characteristics of our grape varieties (the different types of soils are another important factor). Bierzo is a main valley with lateral valleys that offer an incredible diversity of conditions influencing the same grape varieties. A natural wealth that may produce from floral wines up to more complex and mineral ones.

HARVEST: Hand-picked.

As we harvest old and ancient vineyards (bush vines), there is no possibility to mechanize harvest and therefore all our grapes are hand-picked, which is also a perfect way to guarantee the highest quality. Please click on the icon to get harvest reports.

WINEMAKING:

Prefermentative cold maceration during 8 hours. Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks for 10 days.

TASTING NOTES:

Cherry-red colour. Ripe red fruit aromas harmoniously combined with hints of wild and blue flowers together with mineral and spicy notes coming through. Fresh, lively and silky. Just like a raspberry-flavoured lollipop!
